About Hakomi

Hakomi is a mindfulness-centred, body-oriented method of psychotherapy that is both gentle and powerful.

Mindfulness in combination with body awareness can take us far deeper than words alone, to places usually inaccessible to the conscious mind.

The principles of Hakomi

Mindfulness

We invite our clients into mindfulness to notice what is going on inside: thoughts, feelings, sensations, impulses, memories or images. This gives us a great deal more information than just talking can provide.

Non-violence

We honour the pace that feels right for the client as a sense of safety is pivotal for the work. We don’t assume that we know best about you and we’re not in the business of trying to ‘fix’ you.

Organicity

We trust that there is an organic, natural impulse towards healing in every client, and we support that growth and healing to happen.

Unity

We believe that everything is interconnected and interdependent and that we’re all made up of parts. Together, we’ll get those parts communicating with each other so there’s less conflict inside.

Mind-body wholism

We trust that there is a connection between your thoughts, your emotions and your body. We will help you to gently and safely explore what holds you back by working with both the mind and the body.

  • We study how the client organises themselves around their current experience, which is often shaped by deeply held core beliefs.
  • These beliefs often revolve around safety, dependency, freedom, vulnerability, and worth – and they can run our lives without us realising it.
  • We use mindfulness to study and shift these beliefs in order to bring about deep and liberating inner transformation.
